Accelerating action for the elimination of child labour in supply chains in Africa (ACCEL Africa)

Overview

The ACCEL Africa Project has the overarching goal of accelerating the elimination of child labour in Africa through targeted actions in the cocoa, cotton, coffee, tea and gold supply chains.

The programme deploys a supply chain approach that fosters a continuous multi-stakeholder dialogue and promotes a harmonious balance between the achievement of business objectives, economic development goals, and respect for human rights. This is done through, among others, the promotion of due diligence and responsible business practices, the development of public private partnerships, and the mobilization of private financing to support public objectives.
The project is divided into four components, with gender cutting across all of them:

  • Addressing public policy and good governance,
  • Empowerment and representation,
  • Partnership and knowledge sharing, and
  • Continuous research to identify good practices.
