Overview
The aim of CBI is to support SMEs in developing countries to become competitive exporters to Europe, promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth through trade.
CBI empowers SMEs and business support organisations (BSOs) in developing countries to access and succeed in European (and regional) markets by:
- Delivering export coaching programmes that build skills in export marketing, management, CSR, and trade fair participation
- Providing technical assistance to BSOs to strengthen institutional capacity and add value for their members
- Supplying tailored market intelligence—including sector-specific reports, EU trade rules, information on non-tariff barriers, and databases that connect suppliers with EU importers
- Facilitating match-making by linking producers, exporters, BSOs, and European buyers through events and peer-learning workshops
- Promoting sustainability and CSR through training on sustainable practices, action plans, and codes of conduct
- Engaging in multi-stakeholder collaboration by involving governments, trade associations, importers, and international organisations in integrated programmes
These activities enhance export readiness, business competitiveness, and sustainable development.
While stakeholders from any country can seek support, activities are currently underway in Algeria, Bangladesh, Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Indonesia, Jordan, Lebanon, Mali, Morocco, Niger, Nigeria, the Palestinian Territories, Senegal, Sudan, Tunisia, and Uganda.
