Overview
The aim of the project is to promote environmentally friendly production methods and to ensure long-term stable incomes for farming households.
Key activities of the project include:
- Building farmer capacity: Providing trainings on sustainable farming practices in collaboration with the national extension service provider ANADER.
- Improving transparency and traceability across supply chains: Cooperating with private sector actors to support efforts to enhance transparency and traceability, including implementing measures to ensure that no deforestation is linked to raw material sourcing.
- Cooperating with public agencies (e.g., OIPR, SODEFOR): Monitoring forest areas, conducting community sensitization campaigns, promoting agroforestry systems, and strengthening climate change resilience.
- Promoting local value addition: Creating new products and additional income opportunities, e.g., through processing by-products such as transforming rubber seeds into biodiesel or cocoa husks into biogas and biofertilizer.
- Fostering economic diversification: Supporting smallholder farmers in integrating alternative income-generating activities into their farms.
- Empowering women: Providing financial literacy programs and support for launching new income-generating activities.
- Implementing international due diligence and compliance efforts: Rolling out “FIT for FAIR” in Côte d’Ivoire, including capacity development on the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (EU CSDDD).
