Commodity Hub India

Overview

The Commodity Hub India aims to increase sustainability in the cotton, tea, and spice supply chains by enhancing producers’ capacities, facilitating local value addition, and promoting sustainable, climate-resilient farming methods.

The project operates in four key action fields:

  1. Sustainable production: Smallholder farmers and their organizations are supported in adopting more sustainable farming practices in line with internationally recognized sustainability standards.
  2. Local value addition: Local processing capabilities are strengthened, and innovative solutions are piloted.
  3. Sustainable supply chains: Together with key stakeholders, sustainable supply chains are established “from shelf to field”, that is, from the consumer all the way back to the producers, by creating structures that promote transparency, traceability, and accountability at every stage.
  4. Global knowledge transfer: Programme partners engage in the exchange of good agricultural practices and innovations across the selected supply chains.

The Commodity Hub India has also established the integrated development partnership project “From Field to Fanshop”, which involves nine football clubs, the sustainable textile company BRANDS Fashion, and Fairtrade Germany. The project aims to bring fair and organic cotton to the fanshops of the participating clubs.
