Overview

The Dutch Initiative on Sustainable Cocoa (DISCO) is dedicated to three ambitious impact goals: ensuring living incomes, eliminating child labour, and preventing deforestation.

The Dutch Initiative on Sustainable Cocoa (DISCO) is a public-private partnership involving Dutch and international companies, civil society organisations, and government entities. It aims to tackle challenges in the cocoa sector by focusing on three key goals: ensuring cocoa-farming households earn a living income by 2030, eliminating cocoa-related deforestation by 2025, and eradicating child labour by 2025.

DISCO’s activities include developing roadmaps, implementing Child Labor Monitoring and Remediation Systems (CLMRS), and aligning with national initiatives to combat deforestation. Signatories submit annual reports and action plans to enhance transparency and accountability.

These efforts benefit stakeholders by improving farmers’ livelihoods, promoting environmental sustainability, and fostering collaboration among companies, governments, and civil society organizations. For example, Fairtrade supports retailers and manufacturers in meeting DISCO’s living income goals through certification and tailored projects.
