Fair Trade Compliance

Overview

This project aims to support smallholder farmers and their European supply chain partners in adapting to new and upcoming HREDD legislation.

The project entails capacity building and advocacy for HREDD in the Global North, capacity building for HREDD in the Global South, as well as financial support via the HREDD Support Fund.

The capacity building in the Global South is organized by Fairtrade producer networks for Fairtrade producer organizations and consists of the following key activities:

  1. Workshops on HREDD and EU regulations for cooperatives and smallholders.
  2. Training of trainers for selected cooperative members, who will later disseminate their knowledge to other cooperative members and communities.
  3. Providing feedback on practical learnings and challenges to policymakers.

The HREDD Support Fund enables Fairtrade partner companies and producer groups to jointly implement HREDD in their supply chains. Smallholder farmers are supported in making their production sustainable and in adapting to the EU Regulation on the Prevention of Deforestation (EUDR), the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (EU CSDDD), and/or the EU Organic Regulation (EUOR), thereby mitigating the risk of losing market access. Funding can only be applied for by consortia comprising at least one commercial partner from EU countries, including Switzerland and the UK (preferably an SME with up to 250 employees), and one producer partner from a project country. All partners must be certified, licensed, or registered under Fairtrade or a Fair Trade control/certification scheme. Further conditions for funding and timelines can be found on the HREDD Support Fund website.

The HREDD Support Fund operates through regular calls for proposal. Please consult the website for more information on key dates and deadlines or contact us to find out how you can benefit from this support.
