Low Carbon Agriculture for smallholder cocoa farmers in Ecuador

Overview

The project aims to combine climate protection with sustainable improvements in the livelihoods of smallholder families across six provinces of Ecuador: Esmeraldas, Santo Domingo, Manabí, Los Ríos, Guayas, and El Oro. By promoting innovative farming techniques and sustainable management practices, the project seeks to reduce CO₂ emissions in cocoa production while increasing efficiency, yields and incomes. 

The project is part of the proposals receiving funding through the Initiative for Climate Smart Supply Chains (I4C). Key activities of the project include:

• Increasing the efficiency, agricultural productivity, and incomes of farmers through training, investment and advice
• Improving the quality and export readiness on post-harvest management
• Adapting smallholder farming systems to climate change and reducing or eliminating greenhouse gas emissions
• Disseminating technical knowledge and cooperation with national stakeholders
