Overview
PREVENT's mission is to advance the circular economy in low- and middle-income countries by minimising waste, eliminating pollutants, and maximising the reuse of resources in the economy worldwide. The working groups of the PREVENT Waste Alliance currently focus on three material streams: plastics, electrical and electronic equipment and batteries, and organic waste. PREVENT members also work on a range of cross-cutting issues such as digitalisation, behaviour change, and financing mechanisms for the circular economy. The goal is to connect different perspectives along global value chains, share knowledge, develop tools and positions, and pilot scalable solutions for the circular economy.
Global policy dialogue, international coordination and research:
- Members of the PREVENT Waste Alliance contribute to shaping international guidelines and standards for circular economy solutions, e.g. through the PREVENT-StEP cross-alliance working group on the implementation of the Basel Convention or side-events during the negotiations for a Global Plastics Treaty.
- PREVENT connects different perspectives and acts in international cross-sectoral partnerships, e.g. the Global Action Partnership for Extended Producer Responsibility (GAP for EPR).
Industry collaboration and stakeholder engagement:
- PREVENT is a member-driven network which connects different perspectives across sectors, e.g. through regular, topic-specific working group meetings.
Producer/supplier capacity building and empowerment:
- PREVENT incubates and pilots scalable circular economy solutions worldwide, e.g. through innovation programmes and pilot projects.
- PREVENT offers a cutting-edge leadership training for multipliers in the circular economy.
PREVENT Waste Alliance provides publicly available information and tools. The MSI is open to matching members. Please visit the project website or contact us to find out how this support can benefit you.
