Supporting Inclusive Democratic Transition in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Overview

The Olof Palme International Center aims to support workers' organisations and civil society to strengthen democracy, human rights and peace.

The Olof Palme Center is the Swedish labour movement's umbrella organisation for international solidarity and advocacy. It works with 26 Swedish member organisations and 170 local and international partner organisations in 30 countries. The Palme Center supports trade unions, social democratic sister parties and civil society organisations in Southern Africa, the Middle East and Northern Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America.

The overall goal of the programme is that "sustainable civil society organisations (CSOs) engage in broad alliances that contribute to the advancement of good governance, labour rights, citizens engagement and women’s equal political participation". The Palme Center supports progressive social movements and parties that change societies and people's everyday lives. The programme aims to specifically support trade unions, citizens movements and women's organisations.

The Palme Center aims to:

  1. Increase civil participation by establishing study circles in the countries of intervention to improve knowledge about individual rights.
  2. Strengthen local trade unions through support in advocacy, internal democracy or gender equality.
  3. Support national social democratic parties in their ideological development and internal democracy.

The Olof Palme Center offers different support measures to CSOs, trade unions and political parties. Please visit the project website or contact us to find out how you can take part in or benefit from this program.
