Overview
The main goal of the TRANSFORMA-INNOVA program is to engage stakeholders in relevant sectors to transform their agricultural and blue production systems into sustainable, biodiverse, low-carbon, and climate-resilient value chains, thereby contributing to Costa Rica's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and its National Decarbonization Plan.
The project is implemented through a consortium and led by GIZ. Consortium members are: Conservation International, CATIE, FUNBAM, UNDP and CRUSA. The project has 5 key components:
- Governance: Assure policy coherence and strengthen efficient governance of low-carbon and resilient pathways in the selected agricultural and marine-coastal systems.
- Agricultural production: Foster implementation of low-carbon, biodiversity-conserving and resilient agricultural production practices in the coffee, livestock and Musaceae sectors, in close coordination with the respective public and private sector actors.
- Marine-coastal sector: Improve livelihoods of coastal communities, based on sustainable management and conservation of marine and coastal resources.
- Climate finance: Make climate finance available for the activities and project concepts developed within the framework of the project.
- Capacity building: Raise awareness and increase knowledge for low-carbon and resilient pathways.
