Overview
The project aims to strengthen the leather sector by improving SME competitiveness, promoting sustainable and safe production, enhancing technical and managerial capacities, integrating social considerations, and fostering knowledge exchange and collaboration across industry stakeholders.
UNIDO's The Leather and Leather Products Industry Panel is the UNIDO global forum for technical assistance programmes dealing with the leather-based industry sector. It provides information on good practices in small-scale manufacturing as well as professional training and pollution control procedures in the leather, footwear and leather products industries. It supports the leather industry, among others, by:
- providing assistance to small- and medium-scale enterprises in evaluating business opportunities, finding or establishing markets (niches), building product ranges, improving production methods and product quality, enhancing productivity, and developing labour and managerial skills;
- promoting sustainability, safety and improved working conditions; Environmental protection and pollution control directly related to leather processing and leather products manufacturing;
- integrating of social aspects (gender development, occupational health, safety at work) in technical assistance activities;
- capacity buidling; innovative Courses and learning platform,
- convening stakeholders from the leather industry through the Leather Products Industry Panel
