Description
The programme de-risks investments into renewable energy, sustainable transport networks, digital connectivity and digitalisation projects, sustainable supply chains, and human development projects in Sub-Saharan Africa. Its goal is to make energy and transport systems cleaner, more reliable, and better connected, while supporting the region’s green and digital transition.
Through loans and other financial support, the programme helps develop projects that increase access to clean energy, improve transport networks, and promote digital solutions for businesses and communities.
The programme is part of the EU’s Global Gateway strategy and directly contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals, such as Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7) and Climate Action (SDG 13). It also supports flagship initiatives like the Africa–EU Green Energy Initiative, energy transition projects in Kenya and Uganda, and efforts to improve digital connectivity in East Africa.
By encouraging private investment, the programme serves to speed up the energy transition, create new green jobs, and improve access and affordability of electricity.
