Description
The SOL guarantee provides financing to projects that contribute to improve energy access in underserved areas in Sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America and Caribbean, with a special focus on enhancing productive uses of energy. The objective of the programme is to address the barriers to financing off-grid renewable energy projects which would also enable the mobilisation of private sector participation. Furthermore, the programme supports partner countries, in their transition to a more sustainable energy mix and to achieve the final objective of sustainable and reliable energy production and therefore energy security.
The projects supported by SOL consist mainly of small-scale electricity generation solutions based on renewable energy and with capacity to work independently from the national transmission network/grid. Projects consisting of technological solutions aiming at improving energy access in underserved areas are also considered under this programme. COFIDES is in charge of the implementation and management of the programme.
