Description
Bridging the Finance Divide
The 2022 Financing for Sustainable Development Report informs the deliberations at the annual UN Financing for Development Forum in April, which sets the future directions on financing for sustainable development. At this Infopoint event, the authors of the Report will present and discuss its key messages, and the EU Delegation to the UN in New York will brief participants on the main outcomes of this year's Financing for Development Forum.
The 2022 Financing for Sustainable Development Report takes stock of progress on the implementation of the Addis Ababa Action Agenda and informs the deliberations at the annual UN Financing for Development Forum in April. This forum, in turn, sets the future directions on financing for sustainable development. The 2022 Financing for Sustainable Development Report of the Inter-agency Task Force (IATF) begins with an assessment of the global macroeconomic context. The thematic chapter explores the ‘great finance divide’, impacts of and remedies to high borrowing costs for developing countries. The remainder of the report discusses progress in the seven action areas of the Addis Agenda Action Agenda, and on data. Each chapter gives updates on implementation and lays out challenges and policy options at both the national and international levels -- including in response to the current crisis and pandemic and climate risks. The IATF is made up of more than 60 United Nations agencies, programmes and offices, the regional economic commissions and other relevant international institutions. The report and its online annex draw on their combined expertise, analysis and data. The major institutional stakeholders of the financing for development process—the World Bank Group, IMF, WTO, UNCTAD, and UNDP—take a central role, jointly with the Financing for Sustainable Development Office of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN-DESA), which also serves as the coordinator of the Task Force and substantive editor of the report. The outcome document of the Financing for Development Forum is a negotiated declaration, adopted by the UN Member States. This Infopoint event will offer an opportunity to brief a European audience on the main themes and messages this year.
