Review of implementation of EU Aid for Trade 2017 Strategy
The conference will lay down the principles of the EU’s work on Aid for Trade as stemming from the 2017 updated EU Aid for Trade (AfT) Strategy. Main qualitative and quantitative findings from 2021 EU AfT questionnaire to EU Delegations and Member States in the field will then be presented, including the EU response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the thematic areas of EU’s AfT as well as differentiated focus accordingly with countries’ levels of development (least developed countries, lower middle income countries, upper middle income countries).
The EU, together with its Member States, is the first world donor of Aid for Trade (AfT) – 38% of global AfT[1]. ‘’EU Aid for Trade Progress Report 2021’’, has become one of DG INTPA’s signature publications that becomes more and more known year by year and constitutes for a useful reference for the work of EU institutions, as well as for the wider public from other international organisations, civil society, academia, think tanks, etc. working on Aid for Trade in particular.
The report is based on the responses to a questionnaire, completed this year by 98 EU Delegations around the world, and OECD/DAC data on Aid for Trade volumes. The present report is the fourth publication since the 2017 EU Strategy on Aid for Trade and includes more qualitative and results-oriented reporting. The report dedicates a special chapter to the EU’s Aid for Trade response to COVID-19 pandemic, notable through additional resources deployed and adaptation of existing programmes.
The conference will lay down the principles of the EU’s work on Aid for Trade as stemming from the 2017 Commission Communication “Achieving Prosperity through Trade and Investment: Updating the Joint EU Strategy on Aid for Trade” (COM(2017)667) and ensuing Council conclusions (15573/17) established the new EU Aid for Trade Strategy. Main qualitative and quantitative findings will then be presented, including the EU response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the thematic areas of EU’s AfT as well as differentiated focus accordingly with countries’ levels of development (least developed countries, lower middle income countries, upper middle income countries).
