Social dialogue is a key ingredient of the European Social Model facilitating exchange between business, workers and governments, strengthening ownership and accountability of public policies and contributing to social cohesion. To realise its potential under EU development cooperation, a toolkit has been developed for use by EU staff.

Description
The conference aims at presenting the benefits and the ways of integrating social dialogue into the EU development cooperation interventions. Social dialogue is one of the pillars of the decent work agenda, which in turn is one of the overarching objectives of the EU development policy. Social dialogue is a governance tool that increases inclusiveness and accountability of public policies and improves the prospect of democratic ownership and social cohesion. Being a fundamental part of the European social model, social dialogue is largely used in the EU Member States and at EU level to discuss and implement policies and measures that affect employers and workers. Social dialogue has a great potential in the EU development cooperation to help design interventions that really leave no one behind. It may contribute to develop inclusive interventions in all key areas where the EU works, from skills development, through business environement reform to climate change and other.
During the conference we will present briefly how the EU-funded project "Responsible Business Conduct in Latin America and the Caribbean" used social dialogue to design and adopt the National Plan for Business and Human Rights in Perú. We will also hear from the Executive Director of the National Economic Development and Labour Council in the Republic of South Africa why it is crucial to involve workers and employers in the policy making on climate change. Finally, we will present the recently developed e-larning tool - Toolkit on social dialogue for the EU development cooperation - specifically designed for the EU staff to make a better and bigger use of social dialogue in the EU funded actions in partner countries.
