Sharing engagement and practices to scale up progress to end child labour

The webinar will introduce our engagement and actions contributing to SDG 8.7 in order to accelerate progress to end all forms of child labour by 2025. Supporting education, decent work and due diligence measures in value chains where child labour is prevalent and trade to the Europe Union is significant, are some of the responses to the Durban Call to Action.

160 million children across the world are still engaged in child labour, many of them as young as 5-11 years. The 5th Global Conference on the Elimination of Child Labour in Durban last May adopted a comprehensive and solid Call to Action to accelerate progress in the fight against child labour. In her intervention Commissioner Jutta Urpilainen underlined the EU continuous commitment to end child labour and highlighted the EU's ongoing and future concrete actions in line with its political priorities and fundamental values.

In scaling up good practices from ongoing interventions, we will focus interventions in value chains where child labour is highly prevalent in sectors with a high volume of export to the EU. Stories from the field and projects’ results will raise reflection on how improved ownership, sustainability and the upcoming due diligence legislation will help reduce child labour. Speakers will present examples of ongoing and future initiatives to respond to newly adopted Durban Call to Action.
