Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jutta Urpilainen, embarks today on a mission to Southeastern Africa, from 25 to 28 October, to enhance engagement with African partners in the current complex geopolitical context. She will meet with regional leaders from Tanzania and Malawi.

Her mission will mark important moments in the rolling out of EU's positive offer to the region, the Global Gateway strategy. In Tanzania, Commissioner Urpilainen will meet Minister for Foreign Affairs, Stergomena Tax, and Minister for Finance and Planning, Mwigulu Nchemba, in Dar es Salaam.

During these meetings, she will officially announce the EU-Tanzania 2022 Annual Action Plan (AAP) of support as part of the Global Gateway and launch the EU Youth Action Plan (YAP) in Africa with Tanzanian young people's civil society organisations.

In Malawi, the Commissioner will meet with President Lazarus Chakwera and Malawian youth activists, sign six financing agreements of the Annual Action Plan 2022, and launch the Youth Action Plan.

She will also visit an EU-supported vocational training centre for farming and flagship EU projects in agro-businesses, nutrition and social protection. The mission reaffirms the Commission's strong engagement with African partners following the European Union – African Union (AU) Summit in February 2022, the launch of the EU's €150 billion Global Gateway Investment Package for Africa, and just ahead of the EU-AU Commission-to-Commission meeting on 28 November, which will be an opportunity to deliver on joint priorities and to further strengthen the multilateral partnership on matters of common geopolitical significance.
