Who is a “refugee” and where do they find safety? How can local populations support refugees? Do you know any refugees?

Discussing the complex topic of forced displacement is not easy, especially for young people. Yet it is crucial that we all understand better the lives and often difficult stories of refugees, not least to facilitate their integration.

The European Union, UNHCR (the UN Refugee Agency) and UNICEF want to help young people understand the lives of displaced people and their host communities in Africa. Today, we launch an educational package that will allow young people aged 12-18 to learn about basic concepts such as “refugee status” or “asylum”.

The material uses storytelling to bridge cultures and follows a step-by-step approach, with questions and answers, to encourage reflection and discussion. It is available in all 24 EU languages. An animated video is available in 5 languages (EN, FR, IT, ES, EL).
