Forum on the future of journalism: Commissioner Jutta Urpilainen celebrates Natali Prize winners

Today, the European Commission´s Directorate General for International Cooperation and Development in partnership with Reporters Without Borders held the forum Tomorrow’s journalism: new stories, new media tools, same barriers?”, discussing the need to innovate to engage younger audiences, adapt to changing media consumption habits and to better face barriers against the freedom of the press.

The Forum was also an occasion to celebrate the winners of the 2020 Lorenzo Natali Media Prize:

In her intervention, Commissioner Urpilainen stated: ‘the Natali Prize is far more than a competition. It is also a forum for discussion and reference point for development journalism. It is especially relevant in today’s world, where traditional journalism has had to adapt to reach younger generations, who use their fingers to swipe pages, not turn them.’

The panel, moderated by Sky News presenter Gillian Joseph, featured interventions by Christine Ockrent, France Culture radio broadcast anchor and regular columnist at The Washington Post and The Guardian, Anya Zoledziowski, journalist and indigenous affairs expert at VICE, Koen Doens, Director-General for International Cooperation and Development at the European Commission and Rana Ayyub, journalist writing for The Washington Post, TIME, the New Yorker, the New York Times, The Guardian and Foreign Policy., Anya Zoledziowski, journalist and indigenous affairs expert at VICE, Koen Doens, Director-General for International Cooperation and Development at the European Commission and Rana Ayyub, freelance journalist writing for The Washington Post, TIME, the New Yorker, the New York Times, The Guardian and Foreign Policy.
