Kapuscinski Development Lecture with Vladan Joler

Join our #KAPTalks live with technologist and new media professor, Vladan Joler, to explore the digital extractivism tools of the information age.

The event takes place on Wednesday, 23 March at 17.00 CET / 16.00 GMT.

Planetary-scale Systems: Engines of new extractivism

Empowered by the digital extractivism tools of the information age, everything becomes a potential frontier for expansion.

From DNA codes in a human organism’s cell to vast landscape of human emotions, behavior and social relations to nature as a whole—everything becomes territory for the new extractivism.

Traditional colonial practices of control over critical assets, trade routes, natural resources and exploitation of human labor are still deeply embedded in the contemporary supply chains, logistics and assembly lines of digital content, products and infrastructure.

Continuing his #KAPtalks trilogy, technologist and New media professor Vladan Joler will explore how those relations define future development and distribution of wealth and power on a planetary scale.

Just us to reflect, explore and question different issues related to this new 21st century extractivism.

The Kapuscinski Development Lectures is an initiative funded by the European Commission.
