Ahead of the upcoming EU-AU Summit, the EU and AU are together organising the Africa-Europe Youth Meet-Up. This will take place from 8-10 July, and will involve a range of partners including youth organisations. This online event will be livestreamed on Facebook, and will be an opportunity for both African and European Youth to reflect on their post-COVID-19 future together and produce recommendations ahead of the 5th Africa-Europe Youth Summit and the AU-EU Summit in October.

Over the course of 3 days, 7 Afro-European panels will take place covering the Environment, Education, Job creation, Digitalisation, Peace & Security, Governance, and Culture & Arts. Ahead of these panels, an online survey was held on these 7 topics, which yielded close to 6,000 answers in just one week.

An opening session (Wednesday 8 July, 12.30pm CET) will feature European Commissioner for International Partnerships Jutta Urpilainen, a short presentation of the various panels and then focus on climate with Dr Jane Goodall and Vanessa Nakate. The closing session (Friday 10 July, 3pm CET) will include Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič and MEP Zacharopoulou.
Many interesting speakers from Africa and Europe are confirmed across the various panels, including Youssou N'Dour, Bobi Wine, Bertrand Piccard, Jacqueline Novogratz, Peter Verstebacka, Miguel Angel Moratinos, Cheick Modibo Diarra, and Ifeyinwa Ugochukwu.

Background information

Involving young Africans, Europeans and diaspora in active, meaningful and innovative ways is an important priority for both the EU and AU. Since the Abidjan Summit in 2017, the inclusion of youth in the Africa-EU partnership and AU-EU Cooperation has been significantly strengthened via the AU-EU Youth Track, where the AU-EU Youth Hub is a key component.
