Overview
This programme aims at strengthening the strategic EU-Africa partnership in the field of Space and Earth Observation and related service. It leverages EU Space programmes, applications, and know-how to support the use of new technologies, data and knowledge transfer in Africa.
The programme build around three pillars:
- Space & institutional partnership: improving cooperation framework for space and innovation in Africa.
- Space & Green transition: fostering the development of space-based services in support to green transition for risk informed, evidence-based, sustainable and inclusive development in the green transition areas.
- Space & private sector: sustaining data-driven economy and innovation-led society by supporting the uptake of EO data for the development of the space based private sector.
The initiative is implemented via two complementary Action Documents. The first set of actions started in 2025. It includes:
- Institutional capacity building programme in support to the newly created Africa Space Agency
- Industrial cooperation partnership in the area of NewSpace
- Support to the EU-AU Space dialogue
- Establishment of dedicated incubator centres and actionsto support the private sector
- Support to strengthen Early Warning system in Africa in line with Africa Multi-Hazard Early Warning and Early Action System (AMHEWAS) and the UN SG Initiative “Early Warnings for All"" (EW4All)
- Africa Satellite Navigation Support Programme IV
