Overview
This Global Gateway flagship project promotes climate-resilient energy infrastructure and enhances youth skills through vocational training (TVET). It focuses on sustainable development in vulnerable regions, supporting green recovery and long-term resilience.
The initiative includes the following projects:
Energy for Climate Resilience in Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral (Energy+)
The project supports the construction of a 1.56MW on-grid hydropower plant and at least ten 100KW off-grid micro-hydro plants. It also includes the rehabilitation of transmission and distribution networks in Hunza (GB) and a large-scale afforestation programme. The project is being implemented in partnership with the Aga Khan Foundation.
Post-flood Economic Recovery of Green Assets in KP (PEACE II)
The project focuses on restoring rural livelihoods through the rehabilitation and construction of community-based micro and mini hydro plants, irrigation systems, and land resource management such as afforestation and disaster risk reduction. Implementation is led by the Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP).
TVET IV
The project aims at strengthening national and provincial vocational education systems (KP, GB, Balochistan), enhancing youth employment opportunities, including for returnee migrants. Support includes upgrading vocational schools and expanding Centres of Excellence across the country.
