Overview
This project focuses on constructing a National Control Centre to monitor and manage electricity transport across Mozambique. It aims to improve power supply reliability and sustainability, strengthen grid capacity, and support the digital transformation of the energy sector, including the installation of optic fibre.
Activities carried out so far include contracting the Owner Engineer – a joint venture between CESI (Italy) and Decon International (Germany) – and the Technical Assistance to the Programme Implementation Unit (PIUTA), composed of AETS and EDF (France), which began work in July 2024.
Expected outcomes include enhanced control over electricity transport and improved sector efficiency.
The project is part of the Africa-EU Green Energy Initiative (Regional TEI) and was launched by Commissioner Simson at the Global Gateway Investment Forum in Maputo in November 2023. Tenders will be launched mid-2025, with construction expected to start in the second half of 2025.
