Cool Port Addis in Ethiopia

Overview

This flagship project consists in establishing a cold-storage facility for perishable goods at Modjo Dry Port, Ethiopia’s principal inland terminal, with direct access to the Addis-Djibouti railway line.

Main project activities include:

  • Constructing a dedicated cold-storage facility to support the export of fruits and vegetables, particularly avocados
  • Addressing key supply chain bottlenecks identified in a value chain assessment by Delphy B.V.
  • Integrating cold logistics into the national trade infrastructure to enhance competitiveness and sustainability of export supply chains
  • Operating the facility under a management contract between ESLSE and an international cool logistics expert for the first five years
  • Coordinating with the Ethiopian Maritime Affairs Authority (EMA), the project’s tendering authority and owner

The project aims to catalyze the growth of Ethiopia’s horticultural export sector and modernize trade logistics through improved cold-chain infrastructure.
