Extension of digital connectivity in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Overview

​This flagship project consists in the extension of digital connectivity in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

Project activities include: 

  • roll-out of the fibre optic backbone in underserved areas in Eastern DRC
  • plans for the installation of 850 solar-powered cell phones towers (2G initially) in rural areas
  • roll-out of new optic fiber connection to Atlantic data cable

The flagship project also includes digitalisation initiatives such as national operational cybersecurity, public finance and custom systems and Post and Telecom, and the establishment of a farmer portal (agriculture support, production tracing and animal health). It will contribute to reducing the digital divide and inequalities in the DRC.​
