Global Gateway projects

The EU’s Global Gateway Strategy includes hundreds of sustainable and quality investment projects that, in close cooperation with our partners, the EU and its Member States develop and invest in. Projects identified as flagships and included in the list are prominent examples of the progress and deliverables of Global Gateway.

The aim of this list of flagship projects is to showcase the priorities of the Union, its Member States, and our partners, and contribute to strengthening our strategic partnerships and the promotion of our joint interests.

The flagship list is not exhaustive in relation to all projects and activities under Global Gateway.

The initiative aims at establishing a power system that fulfills the country’s energy needs predominantly through renewable sources while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and optimising energy consumption and demand through efficiency measures, in alignment with Global Gateway priorities.

Bio2Watt is a waste to value project in South Africa, which will expand to Mozambique and Uganda. Bio2Watt plants treat animal waste and other waste sources to reduce biogas. This creates a biobased energy source, captures and limits methane emissions and reduces the pollution of water resources.

Construction and deployment of a submarine digital cable interconnecting Georgia and Armenia with the EU, to boost data traffic and the uptake of innovative digital services.

This project will boost digital connectivity, fundamental to the economic and security needs of the Pacific islands. Investments in secure connectivity through subsea cables, satellites and telecommunications towers will overcome challenges such as isolation and the digital divide in the Pacific.

The Global Gateway Initiative on Digital Connectivity enhances Central Asian businesses’ and citizens' access to a secure, high-speed internet through trusted satellite connectivity.

The purpose of the transmission line project is to address the need for an upgrade of the power transmission infrastructure in the Choir and Sainshand regions and make it fit for purpose for renewable energy offtake.

The objective of this project is the economic and social development of Kiritimati Island through the construction and operation of a multi-purpose port and a wave breaker/breakwater to accommodate requirements for transhipment by fishing and container vessels, and cruise liners for tourism.
