Overview
This flagship project consists in developing the Global Gateway Green Shipping Corridors (GGGSC) to connect European ports with strategic global ports.
Main project activities include:
- Establishing corridors to ensure the availability of sustainable and renewable maritime fuels
- Supporting partner countries in transitioning to low-carbon fuels through a Team Europe approach
- Promoting the development of sustainable maritime fuels to reduce carbon emissions in the shipping sector.
The Joint Research Centre of the European Commission (JRC) is conducting a study to inform the development of the GGGSC, focusing on design criteria for port selection, options for sustainable fuels, and potential implementation and financing options to support partner countries in this transition.
