With an enhanced strategic framework building on Global Gateway, the EU Strategy for Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific (2021) and the EU Strategy on Central Asia (2019), the EU aims to contribute to the region’s connectivity, stability and prosperity through the twin digital and green transition and sustainable development/Sustainable Development Goals.
Global Gateway, with the support of development banks and the private sector, aims to provide capital for investment into hard and soft infrastructure, contributing to reducing the Asia Pacific region’s infrastructure gaps. This project aims to support the Vietnamese government to construct a four-unit pumped-storage hydropower system. The new system will have a total capacity of 1,200 megawatts. It will assist Vietnam to reach its commitments on carbon neutrality and the phasing out of coal for energy generation.

The initiative will enhance businesses and citizens' access to a secure internet through trusted satellite connectivity. Earth stations and other digital infrastructure will be positioned across Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, linking to existing broadband infrastructure.
