Overview
The programme aims at rehabilitating 350 Km of canals along the Shabelle and Juba river in Somalia. This will in turn lead to increasing productivity of sustainable agri-food systems and strengthening key value chains such as sesame and sorghum.
The programme contributes to food security in Somalia by increasing local agri-food production and building the resilience to food crisis amongst the communities in Jubaland, Hirshabele, and South-West State.
The programme's key expected outcomes are:
- restoring irrigation systems
- increasing selected crop local production and productivity
- improving farmer productivity and incomes
- building capacity of public institutions
- increasing market access and competitiveness
- enhancing governance in priority value chains (in particular sorghum and sesame).
