Overview
The general objective of the action is to contribute to the reduction of poverty and the improvement of the living conditions of the populations of the Republic of Congo through an improvement of the economic and commercial environment, access to efficient port infrastructure and sustainable fisheries resource management.
The specific objectives are to:
- enable the Port Autonome de Pointe Noire (PAPN) to respond to the growth in traffic at the port of Pointe-Noire by improving its reception infrastructure and its competitiveness
- support the PAPN in order to implement environmental management in accordance with international standards
- support the Republic of Congo in order to restore sustainable exploitation of the fishery resource
The program entails the extension of existing cargo infrastructure, new waste management infrastructure, the amelioration of environmental management systems, building infrastructures, governance mechanisms and systems capable of assisting the Republic of Congo in finding sustainable fishing management modes, and measures to improve port procedures.
The project has made significant progress in modernizing fishing infrastructure and strengthening fisheries management capacities. The construction of the new industrial and artisanal fishing port and pier is expected to significantly improve the industry's efficiency.
