Port Victoria rehabilitation and extension in the Seychelles

Overview

This flagship project consists in the rehabilitation and extension of the port if Victoria (Seychelles). The port of Victoria is the only significantly sized port serving the Seychelles and is critical to the economic life of the country. The actual quay infrastructure of the Port Victoria is in a state of serious disrepair, and not adapted to actual and future port operations. The quay dates to the 1970s, has limited capacity; cannot cater for large vessels and for more than one vessel at a time and cannot accommodate some handling equipment. The Seychelles being a Small Island Developing State (SIDS) rely only on its airport and seaport for access to the global market for import and export of goods.

This project aims to:

  1. Extend the quay of Port Victoria from 370m to 600m and to increase the width by 10 metres
  2. Reclaim and backfill the yard area behind the new quay
  3. Dredge the area in front of the quay, the approach channel and turning circle
  4. Reinforce and/or rehabilitate some of the existing quays
