Overview
The Dutch Fund for Climate and Development (DFCD) is a climate resilience fund whose most important characteristics include its work with innovative finance for climate action, its success in mobilising private sector finance for climate resilience, its enabling of transformative projects, and its close work with the partner countries.
The DFCD combines private investments, development cooperation and diplomacy to jointly enable a much-needed climate impact. Throughout the fund, there is private sector involvement, both in funding and implementing projects.
Good examples of projects enabled by the DFCD include:
- The Bio2Watt biogas plant in South Africa. The Bio2Watt project is explained on another page as an individual GG flagship project
- Supporting Chanzias as a producer of sustainable animal feed protein in East and Southern Africa, Chanzi collects food waste and converts it into insect-based, sustainable, protein-rich animal feed and organic fertiliser
- Supporting Concepta's processing of forest fruits and ingredients collected by traditional communities in Brazil
- Concepta Ingredients is a Brazilian company that processes forest fruits and vegetal ingredients collected by traditional communities, with the 2100 involved local smallholders receiving being paid a fair price. It thereby also supports climate-resilient food security and avoids deforestation, protecting indirectly 345,000 hectares of conserved forests.
