Overview
Solid waste management
The general objective of the Program is to contribute to the improvement of the comprehensive management of urban solid waste in the Dominican Republic, with a special focus on Greater Santo Domingo, in order to mitigate the negative environmental and social impacts of the nine open-air landfills in the Program's area of influence, and with special attention to the closure of the Duquesa landfill, which specially affects the neighborhoods of Los Casabes and Duquesa.
The Program expects to benefit approximately 3.7 million people in the Greater Santo Domingo area, mainly, with access to better comprehensive management of urban solid waste, including vulnerable populations and migrant recyclers with a focus on environmental and climate resilience.
Coastal sanitation in Boca Chica and La Caleta
The general objective of the Program is to improve the environmental conditions and health of the inhabitants of the localities benefited by the Program through access to sanitation services managed in a sustainable and safe manner.
The specific objectives of the Programme are:
- to increase the coverage of safely managed sanitation in the localities covered by the Programme
- to improve the management of drinking water services in these localities and contribute to the strengthening of water and sanitation operators and the National Institute of Drinking Water and Sewerage (INAPA)
