Overview
This flagship project consists in the rehabilitation of priority transport axes connecting Ukraine and Moldova to the European Union. It contributes to trade in essential goods from and to Ukraine. The Solidarity Lanes project also addresses the need for investment in Moldova’s ageing transport infrastructure by increasing the capacity of its rail network and its interconnectivity with the railway networks of neighbouring countries. The EU, EBRD and EIB are financing this project together.
The first set of programmes under the Ukraine Investment Framework (UIF) include support for rehabilitation & development of transport and logistics infrastructure. The investment priorities under UIF are guided by priority reforms defined in the Ukraine Plan, including a revised national transport strategy and a border crossing points strategy by the end of 2024.
Further projects to modernise the transport infrastructure on the EU’s trans-European transport network (TEN-T) as well as in Ukraine and Moldova will be awarded under the 2024 CEF call closing in 2025. This comes in addition to the support provided through external instruments (support to the North-South rail axis in Moldova and to the UA road border crossing points, which is already delivering on the ground).
