South Asia Energy Connectivity

Overview

The South Asia Energy Connectivity project aims at addressing the energy connectivity gap in South Asia including Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal and, possibly, Sri Lanka. South Asia is the least integrated region in the energy sector in Asia, with only limited cross-border energy trade, regional energy infrastructure, and regional coordination mechanisms.

This action will focus on increasing Cross Border Electricity Trade (CBET), improving policy framework and investment conditions, integrating larger shares of renewable energy in the South Asia's energy mix. The action will be articulated along three axes:

  1. Fostering dialogue between the countries, and sharing EU experience on integrated electricity trade market
  2. Building capacity at country level
  3. Supporting a broader stakeholder's engagement
