Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, together with Southern Caucasus countries, Türkiye and other partners are teaming up with the European Union under the Global Gateway investment strategy to ensure our paths continue to meet and protect our supply chains from disruptions.
The traffic currently building up on the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor represents an opportunity for economic development in countries along the route, and it requires close intercontinental collaboration.
The Corridor countries are taking the lead in bridging transportation gaps by forging stronger ties with the European Union. Together with international partners, we are mobilising so far €10 billion to develop and modernise hard infrastructure and soft connectivity measures essential for the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor.
Reducing freight times by half
Together with international and Central Asian partners, the European Union invests in transforming the corridor into a cutting-edge and efficient route. Harnessing the power of modern technologies, we can connect our continents faster, safer, and more sustainably.
Establishing direct transport links through the Black Sea, Southern Caucasus and the Caspian Sea is estimated to cut transportation time by half, which could increase trade flows even threefold.
- €10 billionfor sustainable transport connectivity in Central Asia
An overall investment commitment in sustainable transport connectivity in Central Asia, as compiled contributions from international partners present at the 2024 Investors Forum for EU-Central Asia Transport Connectivity.
- ½ freight times+ 3x trade flows
A combination of investments and efficiency measures can reduce travel times along the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor by half and triple trade flows by 2030, according to the World Bank’s model.
Creating investment opportunities
We have identified a network of the most sustainable transport connections linking the five Central Asian countries better with each other and with Europe to ensure sustainable economic growth, locally and globally.
These more innovative links will help maximise our shared economic potential while opening investment opportunities to develop hard infrastructure (existing and new routes, links and ports) and work on soft connectivity measures (trade facilitation, regulatory measures and digitalisation).
Strengthening regional integration
Apart from unlocking new possibilities for businesses on either side of the Caspian Sea, upgrading this transport network will strengthen regional integration by connecting local markets and people with services.
The Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor is also a regional route network. Its massive efficiency improvements will not only encourage the economic development of Central Asia but also transform the lives of its citizens.
