AU-EU Digital for Development (D4D) Hub: Shaping a joint digital future

AU-EU Digital for Development Hub

The African Union-European Union (AU-EU) Digital for Development (D4D) Hub project supports African institutions to lay grounds for an inclusive digital transformation. It promotes collaboration between African and European stakeholders to create an enabling environment to seize digitalisation opportunities for development.

In a true Team Europe spirit, the project brings together the European Union and five of its Member States to leverage expertise and resources to advance digital cooperation with Africa. The project is part of the D4D Hub, an EU-led multi-stakeholder platform that promotes global partnerships to ensure that digital technologies improve lives worldwide.

Our approach

The project offers a comprehensive package of services, products and activities to African institutions, namely:

  1. Technical assistance to increase the capability of regional and national institutions to develop and operationalise digital transformation plans.
  2. Knowledge sharing (experiences, skills and expertise) between African and European stakeholders.
  3. Dialogues between actors from the digital ecosystem to support participative policymaking and foster new partnerships.

Towards a human-centric digital transformation

Digital technologies can have a positive impact on inclusion, productivity, poverty reduction and job creation. However, ensuring that every person reaps their benefits requires investing in adequate policies and regulatory frameworks that facilitate public participation and protect freedoms, rights, and security.

Through the AU-EU D4D Hub project, the European Union supports a digital transformation that puts people first, contributing to close the digital divide and to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

Advancing the AU-EU digital cooperation agenda

Africa and Europe are important partners in the digital sector. The AU-EU D4D Hub project contributes to deepen their collaborations and to strengthen transcontinental networks between different actors of the digital ecosystem.

For example, the project organises exchange visits and workshops for African and European participants to learn from each other and apply digital transformation good practices.

The project also facilitates a yearly high-level dialogue that brings together major players from both continents to share insights, identify joint opportunities, and potentially align priorities.
