Digital Innovation to Boost Economic Development in Belize

Introduction

The Government of Belize is promoting digitalisation in firms and government services to stimulate economic growth and efficiency. To that end, it is promoting the use of digital technology among Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, including women-owned firms. Digital technology can also contribute to climate action efforts and help businesses reduce their carbon footprint. 

Objectives

The project aims to promote business firms’ growth and efficiency through the adoption of digital solutions and to reduce costs for citizens through the digitalisation of civil registration services.

Moreover, the project helps to deliver on the Global Gateway commitments for an inclusive digital transformation. 

Project activities

The European Union's contribution focuses on stimulating private sector investment in digital and green transformation  and supporting gender specific projects. It supports digital transformation consultancies, gender sensitisation campaigns, capacity building and technical support. 

Results

• The project aims to achieve the following results:
  Improved business processes and operations  for approximately 250 Belizean micro-small firms, eight medium-firms and two large firms, particularly those that are women-led
• at least 20 individuals (including at least 10 women) will benefit from vouchers to attend digital skills bootcamps
• at least three entrepreneurs and/or start-up firms will be incubated and benefit from innovative digital solutions , including solutions to tackle climate change
