Introduction

This project, developed by the Regional Teachers Initiative for Africa (RTIA) - Facility, supports teachers in adopting creative digital pedagogies and empowering learners to engage meaningfully with digital technologies. It aims to enhance the digital competence of teachers and learners, improve the quality of teaching, and foster innovation in education systems. The initiative includes the deployment of mobile digital toolkits, the establishment of innovation hubs, and the development of learning resources to support both initial and continuous digital training.

The project receives additional, parallel financing from the Belgium-funded Teach2Empower Programme.

Objectives

  • Equip schools with mobile digital toolkits to facilitate digital teaching and learning.
  • Establish innovation hubs as centres for digital training and collaborative learning.
  • Develop and disseminate digital learning resources tailored to local contexts.
  • Promote sustainable models for digital education through innovative governance and financing.

Current results:

Tanzania - Kigoma region:
Four innovation hubs equipped
12 schools equipped with 24 mobile digital toolkits

Uganda - Adjumani district and Jinja district: 
Two innovation hubs equipped (in central schools)
Eight schools equipped with 16 mobile digital kits

Rwanda: 
Two innovation hubs equipped  
Eight schools with 16 mobile digital kits

  • Enhanced digital competence of teachers and learners.
  • Improved quality of teaching through innovative digital pedagogies.
  • Increased access to digital learning resources.
  • Sustainable models for digital education in place.
