Overview
This is a Forest partnership, with a MoU signed in November 2022 during the COP27 by the President Ursula von der Leyen and the President of Mongolia Khurelsukh. The Roadmap was adopted in July 2023.
- The Forest Partnership addresses forests in an integrated way taking into account the needs of local communities. The objective is to protect, restore and ensure the sustainable management, use, and governance of forests, strengthen forest-based value-chains, stimulate stable business environments and ensure the sustainable trade of forest products.
- The STREAM+ project supports the legal framework; the forest's value chains and the TVET schools in order to train and provide a skilled and tailor-made labour force. FGVC project strengthens the capacities of the Forest administration (central and decentralised).
- STREAM+ and FGVC are respectively being implemented since July and November 2024, respectively. EIB is currently preparing a portfolio of projects with a view to sign a sovereign loan of EUR100mln (blending with the European Commission and another IFIs from one or several Member States). Sustainable management of the forests, expansion of the forest surface in Mongolia, will increase revenues for the local actors and for the national budget, reducing the import of wood products.
