Clean Hands, Water and Sanitation are key to a healthy life.
Watch our Documentary about the “Usafi Iringa” project creating clean, affordable, community based solutions for water and hygiene in Iringa, Tanzania.
The project 'Integrated environmental sanitation concepts for poor, underserved and peri-urban areas of Iringa Municipality', has been shortened to 'Usafi Iringa – Iringa Sanitation Project'. It has ensured that more than 1000 additional households are now provided with sanitation services, has mobilised communities to implement the innovative Community Lead Urban Environmental Sanitation (CLUES) approach and to provide “Sanitation as Business” training modules to small-scale entrepreneurs.
Through the EU-ACP Water facility Initiative, the project has received more than 2.2 billion Tanzanian shillings (€1.1 million) to increase access to sanitation services and safe drinking water by developing innovative, affordable and environmentally sustainable sanitation systems.
With funding from the European Union, the project has been implemented by ACRA-CCS Foundation, in partnership with Iringa Municipal Council, Iringa Urban Water and Sanitation Authority (IRUWASA), local (MAMADO, IDYDC) and international organisations (BOKU, cewas, CeTAmb and CUAMM).
