Global Gateway news: Climate and energy

In commemorating Europe Day, the European Union (EU) officially launched its €35-million climate action programme Euroclima in the Caribbean region.

The European Commission and the European Investment Bank have announced €18 billion of financing under Global Gateway, Europe's investment strategy for partner countries.

The EU-funded Copernicus Philippines Programme was formally launched today. Copernicus is the EU Earth Observation programme that supports the Philippines’ resilience to natural disasters and assists with climate change adaptation.

On 24-25 January, Commissioner for the Internal Market, Thierry Breton, and Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jutta Urpilainen, will visit Southern Africa to enhance ties between the EU and Namibia and mark the 33rd anniversary of the EU-Namibia Partnership.

During the EU-ASEAN Commemorative Summit, the EU and its Member States, in a Team Europe approach, announced the mobilisation of €10 billion as part of Global Gateway to accelerate infrastructure investments in ASEAN countries.

Today, High Representative/Vice-President Josep Borrell co-hosted the EU-Central Asia Connectivity Conference for Sustainable Development in Samarkand where he announced the launch of two EU Global Gateway flagship initiatives on Water, Energy and Climate, and on Digital Connectivity. 

Today at COP27 in Sharm el-Sheikh, the EU and the African Union announced a new Team Europe Initiative on Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience in Africa as part of the EU-Africa Global Gateway Investment Package.

In the context of the COP27 United Nations Climate Change Conference taking place in Sharm-El-Sheikh (Egypt), the EU and EU member states have announced a Team Europe Initiative (TEI) Green Paraguay.

Today, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and President of Namibia Hage Geingob signed a Memorandum of Understanding establishing a strategic partnership between the EU and Namibia at the COP27 in Egypt.
