Description
The European Commission and the International Monetary Fund will host the ninth edition of the African Fiscal Forum on 2 and 3 March 2021, in virtual format. The first day will take place in a high-level format with finance ministers from Sub-Saharan Africa in the presence of European Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jutta Urpilainen, and IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva. This will be followed by technical discussions among senior finance officials on the second day.
Participants will include:
- African ministers and policymakers
- bilateral partners and multilateral institutions
- representatives of civil society.
The forum provides an opportunity for senior policymakers and officials from finance ministries and revenue authorities in countries in Sub-Saharan Africa to discuss the fiscal challenges they face. Participants will be able to share experiences, create networks and learn from their peers, while the EU and IMF will engage in dialogue on fiscal policy issues in the region.
'Time for BRAVE Policies'
This year’s theme is ‘Time for BRAVE Policies’. Delegates will take stock of the pandemic’s impact and the resulting fiscal challenges, and discuss the Bold, Revenue-based, Anchored in medium-term frameworks, Vaccine-compatible and Equitable (BRAVE) fiscal reforms needed to address them.
The opening Roundtable on “BRAVE policies to Shape the Recovery in Africa” will be livestreamed. A subsequent ministerial session will look at debt sustainability and investment in the post-COVID recovery phase.
