Global Health Policy Forum

Brussels | 15 May

Three years after the adoption of the European Union Global Health Strategy, the European Commission is organising the 2025 Global Health Policy Forum (GHPF)

Global health stakeholders will gather to take stock of the implementation of the Strategy, assess current and future challenges, and discuss what lies ahead for the global health agenda.

Taking stock of the EU Global Health Strategy

The EU Global Health Strategy (EUGHS) adopted in 2022 positions global health as an essential pillar of the EU external policy and as a key component of Global Gateway, while it also represents the external dimension of the European Health Union. The strategy puts forward three key overarching and interrelated priorities:

  1. Deliver better health and well-being of people across the life course;
  2. Strengthen health systems and advance universal health coverage;
  3. Prevent and combat health threats, including pandemics, applying a One Health approach.

Guiding principle 20 of the EUGHS states that the European Commission will host a structured dialogue with stakeholders as part of the annual Global Health Policy Forum process, to discuss implementation and monitoring and make necessary adjustments.

The Directorate General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE) and the Directorate-General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA) have been co-organising the Global Health Policy Forum.

Objectives and main themes of the 2025 Global Health Policy Forum

The objective of the Forum is to foster constructive dialogue and strengthen engagement among key global health stakeholders. Through open discussions and collaborative efforts, we aim to assess the progress of global health engagement and ensure accountability in the European Union’s global health actions. This event will provide a platform to monitor and evaluate ongoing efforts, ensuring that we stay on track to meet the goals set out in the EU Global Health Strategy. By keeping global health at the forefront of the global agenda, we strive to drive collective action and accelerate progress towards a healthier and more equitable future.

The Forum will provide a valuable opportunity to take stock of the progress made in implementing the EU Global Health Strategy and draw key conclusions from the lessons learned. It also serves as a platform for in-depth discussions on critical topics, including global health financing and architecture, recent experiences in health emergency prevention, preparedness, response, and resilience, as well as strategies for promoting local manufacturing of health products in partner countries. Additionally, the Forum will address how to ensure universal access to Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR).
