Description
The African Union (AU) and the European Union (EU) are co-hosting the first Africa-Europe Digital for Development (D4D) Hub Multi-Stakeholder Forum with the aim of advancing the partnership between African and European digital actors.
The event will take place online on Friday 18 March 2022 from 09:00 to 17:00 CET.
The forum’s objective is to make sure that all African and European stakeholders (including private sector, governments, academia, and civil society) contribute to joint AU-EU efforts to build an inclusive digital economy and society that leaves no one behind.
It will also be an opportunity for the African Union Commission and the European Commission to give an update on the status of the implementation of digital initiatives and programmes.
Expected outcomes include:
- Identification of opportunities and challenges for digital cooperation initiatives.
- Showcasing of good practices, lessons learned, and innovative approaches for an inclusive digital transformation.
- Providing a space to link African and European digital actors with the aim to initiate mutually beneficial collaborations and identify opportunities for investments.
- Informing stakeholders on the status of the implementation of the AU digital agenda.
Digital at the heart of AU-EU relations
The Africa-Europe D4D Hub Multi-Stakeholder Forum is taking place one month after the EU-AU Summit, Africa-Europe Week, and the EU-Africa Business Forum, key events for the AU-EU partnership where digital cooperation took a central role in the agenda.
In line with the African Union’s Digital Transformation Strategy for Africa, leaders from both continents announced an Africa-Europe Investment Package, which amongst other priorities aims to accelerate Africa’s digital transition.
The Africa-Europe D4D Hub Multi-Stakeholder Forum will follow-up on these ambitions and will provide a platform to discuss concrete joint actions and opportunities for cooperation.
