Co-hosted by the European Commission and the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU, the Global Gateway High-Level Education Event, which took place on 11 April 2024 in Brussels, aimed to highlight EU's role in transforming global education and bridging skills gaps.
The Transforming Education Summit (TES) that took place in September 2022 in New York, called for accelerating progress of education and training systems to make them fit for the future. The EU responded with dedication by taking leadership at the Summit, committing at least 10% of its international partnerships budget to education, and prioritising education and research under the Global Gateway Strategy. This strategy focuses on addressing global challenges in line with SDGs by fostering smart, clean, and secure connections across the digital, transport, energy and climate-relevant, as well as health and education sectors.
Two years later, the Global Gateway High-Level Education Event marked an important milestone for the EU and its partners towards the 2024 Summit of the Future and the 2025 World Social Summit underlining the importance of education as a catalytic investment for the future.
Thematic sessions covered urgent issues such as improving teaching quality, financing, equity, inclusion, innovation, and green and digital skills. Together with top leaders from politics, the education sector, and business, we presented and discussed success stories and considered future opportunities to ensure progress at scale. We explored existing commitments and how to boost sustainable investments that deliver more for young people and ensure that succeeding generations are well-prepared for the challenges ahead.

Addressing the critical role of education in advancing equity and inclusion, the panel will highlight how the EU and its partners are promoting equality, including gender equality and inclusion, through strategic investments.
II. Gearing up VET and higher education for the future
The panel will showcase investments in higher education and vocational education and training (VET) in support of major social and economic transformations as the world seeks to achieve an equitable twin transition.

Conference venue
The Global Gateway High-Level Event on Education will take place at Flagey, Place Sainte Croix, 1050 Brussels on 11 April 2024. You will be welcomed at the registration desk in the main entrance of the venue.
To enter the venue, you will have to pass through a security check, including a pre-screening, registration check and metal detector passage. Therefore, you are advised to arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of the conference and to bring a copy of your registration confirmation email.

Upon arrival at the venue, you will receive your personal badge at the check-in desk; please bring an official document stating your name.
Badges are to be worn at all times throughout the event as they will grant you access to all activities taking place at Flagey Cultural Center.

There is a Villo station on Place Flagey. Bikes, scooters, and motorbikes can be parked on Place Sainte-Croix.
Car
We recommend coming by public transport or considering alternative means of transport to avoid traffic and parking problems.
Since October 2022, the Good Move plan and the Flagey-Vijvers local mobility contract have been in effect in Brussels. The direction of traffic has changed in some places.
