Description
DESIREE (Demand-side management, Social Infrastructures, Renewables and Energy Efficiency) aims to mobilise private sector investments for the energy efficiency and electrification of social infrastructures in sub-Saharan Africa, Asia and Latin America. DESIREE focuses on specific market segments by promoting innovative business models for households and small enterprises as well as social infrastructures.
The three intervention areas are:
- Set-up of super-ESCOs (energy service companies), which are dedicated entities that prepare large energy efficiency projects
- Management of the energy demand-side through utility companies to implement domestic and commercial consumer energy efficiency measures, such as solar water heaters, electric cooking and efficient lighting
- Innovative approaches in de-risking and scaling private sector business models for sustainable electrification of social infrastructure
