Integrated bauxite and aluminium project in Ghana

Overview

The "Integrated Bauxite and Aluminum Project in Ghana" led by Metlen Energy & Metals aligns with the European Union's broader strategy to enhance access to critical raw materials and secure strategic autonomy. It is worth noting that international markets are currently experiencing significant pressure in the bauxite and alumina sectors, with demand surpassing supply.

The project includes 3 phases:

  • Phase 1 - Research and quality control of bauxite deposits (ongoing)
  • Phase 2 - Development of a bauxite mine in the area of Nyinahin (the target is to achieve an annual mining production of 5 Μt)
  • Phase 3 - Development of an Alumina Refinery with processing capacity of 1.5 Mt alumina (in parallel with the construction of a Combined Heat and Power Plant - CHP)

Metlen Energy & Metals will collaborate with local contractors, specialised local laboratories, organisations and Universities and at the same time provide training to personnel and students in relation to environmental safety and rehabilitation.

Employees will receive training and education from the highly experienced staff from Metlen’s existing projects in Ghana and transfer of their know-how and expertise and wider industrial development opportunities.

The project will significantly contribute to:

  • High skilled job creation using available local expertise, goods, services
  • Provide business in the aluminium industry value chain, by increasing the local capabilities to international competitiveness standards
